Brian MacLeod

Brian McLeod was born and raised in Truro, Nova Scotia, on the eastern coast of Canada.  He worked as an office manager at a propane gas company before losing his sight due to a hockey accident at the age of 29.

Brian started competing in blind golf in 1997 and has now played in 71 tournaments around the world.  In 2000, he started the Nova Scotia Blind Golf Association to encourage blind and visually impaired individuals to become involved in the sport of blind golf.

An open tournament has been held every year since the inaugural tournament in 2001.  Brian hates the word "can't" and encourages all people who are blind and visually impaired to try something.  He says “don't let anyone discourage you until you try it”.

As Canadian nominee Brian was elected to the International Blind Golf Association Board of Directors in 2008.  As Chief Organiser he is really looking forward to hosting the 2012 World and Canadian Open Blind Golf Championships in Truro next July.
