2010 Blind Golf World Championships and British Championships
England and Wales Blind Golf were proud hosts of the 2010 IBGA World Championships and the British Open at the Whittlebury Park Golf and Country Club Towcester, Northamptonshire.
There were two play-offs in a thrilling finish to the World Blind Golf Championships at Whittlebury Park Golf Club. In the first, Jeremy Poincenot from USA chipped in from off the green at the first play-off hole to beat England's Simon Cookson and become the 2010 World Blind Golf Nett Champion. Simon won the B3 Gross Championship.
For the B2 Gross Championship, two of England's players, Andy Sellars from Yorkshire and defending Champion, Pieta Le Roux from London had tied on 178. They battled it out in the second play-off with Andy emerging victorious.
Israel's Zohar Sharon was a clear winner in the B1 category by 9 shots with an overall gross score of 219.
Chiara Pozzi from Italy took both the Ladies titles with a gross 205, nett 141.
At the age of just 20 Jeremy Poincenot went from 20/20 vision to legally blind in two months. Jeremy has a rare genetic disease called Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy'. It was exciting to watch this youngster win his first World Championship at the Whittlebury Park CC in England.
