2022 ISPS Handa SA Blind Golf Open
The 2022 ISPS Handa SA Blind Golf Open was staged at the picturesque Milnerton Golf Club in Cape Town at the end of March. Had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic, this week would have seen blind golfers from all around the world joining us for the Open to be followed by the World Championships. Alas, that was not to be, although two golfers did join us from abroad.
Milnerton Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 71, challenging links course situated 10 minutes north of the city of Cape Town.
The Open saw the players facing some challenging weather with a very windy first day followed by wind and rain on the final day. Nevertheless, the standard of the golf was very high.

Milnerton Golf Club Cape Town
2022 SA Inter-Provincial and Challenge Cup
The inaugural SA Blind Golf Inter-provincials and Challenge Cup were staged at the picturesque Milnerton Golf Club in Cape Town at the end of March. These new events on the SA blind golf calendar saw players pairing up to play Greensomes on the first day and Pinehurst on the final day.
The first day was a clear indication that both events were going to be extremely tight affairs.
Challenge Cup
In the Challenge Cup, Owen Robinson (England) and Lambert Badenhorst had a 1 point lead over Wally Roode (Ireland) and HP Lensley.
The final day saw no change to the tightness of the competition.
The Challenge Cup went to Owen and Lambert, with both pairs producing very good scores of 30 points on the day.
Inter-Provincial
In the inter-provincial the father and son Gauteng pair produced a second successive 29 points to eventually finish in 3rd place. The leading two pairs of Cape and Ekurhuleni were separated by only one shot coming to the 18th tee, which was playing into a strong headwind.
At the end of the day it took a miraculous chip-in from Garrett (from the penalty area pin-high left) to give the Cape pair a one point home-town victory over Ekurhuleni with both finishing a strong scores of 32 points for the day.
The final results were thus as follows:
Garrett Slattery and Morne Els (Cape Province) - 63
Ernst Conradie and Charlene Pienaar (Ekurhuleni Province) - 62
Johan Kotze and Jontey Kotze (Gauteng Province) - 58
A fitting end to a great inaugural event will hopefully be the start of many more exciting events in the future.
