The Western Canadian Championships were proudly sponsored by Mutual Fire Insurance of BC. A long-term volunteer from Creston, Virginia Harder was instrumental in securing her company to be title sponsor of the Western Canadian Championship. The two-day competition was kicked off with a practice round that was a best ball team scramble.
All participants at both competitions really enjoyed this format as they wee able to see the course yet not have to play an entire round of stroke play.
Competition-wise, we had a total of 44 participants, which included 12 international players.
As the final closing banquet was held at St. Eugene Golf Resort, which is owned and operated by the indigenous community of the Ktunaxa Nation, they all guests with indigenous dance. This included a friendship circle dance which was inclusive to all guests to participate in. This ended up being a long but great celebration as all participants took part and at the end shook hands and shared embraces. We will take this as a positive experience, although after the fact many participants are also now testing positive for COVID. Hindsight is 20/20. I guess we should have discouraged so many embraces.
